YOU, ME, and GEOMETRY
For the month of November, Artisans on Taylor Gallery presents the show “You, Me, and Geometry.” This group show features artists Ollie Glatzer, Shelle Miggins, and Counsel Langley. The show will open with a reception during gallery walk on November 5th from 6-8pm. Also during the reception will be live music with DJ, Caleb Peacock, and a live video of the gallery walk happening at Ghost Gallery located in Capitol Hill.
Artist Ollie Glatzer, will be making his Port Townsend debut in this upcoming show. He is a Seattle resident who refers to himself as a, “geometricist.” Originally a musician, Glatzer has moved into the visual arts with childlike abandon being fueled by a love of futuristic forms, light and color relationships, nature, film, architecture, and sound. His lifelong relationship with doodling is paying off in a big way with work that both challenges and baffles the viewer.
Also, to debut in Port Townsend is Seattle resident Shelle Miggins. A skilled neon artist, whose work can be seen throughout Seattle and as far away as Minnesota and L.A., The "619 arts building," a work studio located in the Georgetown area, was the inspiration Miggins needed to begin creating two-dimensional pieces. She began work on the collection that today is a finished body of work, “An Explanation of Life” — this work is a bold expression of black-and-white geometric shapes that can boggle the mind, which she lights with neon. Miggins is currently working to create an interactive art collection. She wants to involve the viewer to view not only with their eyes but also with their hands and minds. Her intent is to show an emotional overlay, a visual hands-on experience, all in the game of Art.
Immediately following a very well-received three-person show at Northwind Arts Center, Counsel Langley still has more new work that has yet to be seen on the Olympic Peninsula. This November she will present these works at Artisans on Taylor. Native to the Pacific Northwest and a Port Townsend resident, Langley received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the region and nationally; it has appeared in several select publications including the acclaimed Seattle-based Filter Literary Journal and is held by the Seattle City Light Portable Works Permanent Collection. While her repertoire of materials and techniques expands, she continues to wield acrylics, inks, and immodest amounts of glitter, in a drive toward balance between precisely applied tool use, and materials which are allowed to follow natural tendencies.
A reception will be held for the show, “You, Me, and Geometry” on the November 5th at Artisans on Taylor’s new location 911 Water St. The reception will run in conjunction with the Port Townsend Gallery Walk, from 6-8pm and will also feature live DJ music as well as a live web stream with Ghost Gallery in Seattle.
