There is a natural order to working in a ceramic studio.

First

wedge, throw, trim, fire, glaze, fire, clean

and then

begin again

This process is cyclical and rhythmic, resulting in a messy round canvas where I create small worlds inspired by my love of stories.  I am most interested in finding the moment that a story captures a particular truth and sparks epiphany within.  I try to translate this feeling into clay.  To make each cup, each pot an invitation to pick up a familiar story and meet it anew.  I like to see how the stories grow and transform through use.

Each pot is made from cone six porcelain or stoneware.  Most are thrown on the potter's wheel and many of my pots are hand altered.  To form my images, I use sgraffito, layered slips, oxides, and glazes.  All of my pots are dishwasher safe and meant to be used.
